I'd admit I'm an open sources freak. It's amazing how many people can actually program, true they do get tired, but since the code is open for everyone-other developers have the choice to fix what's needed fixing. Of course what I've just said was out of the blue, sorry just a bit "exalted".
I've always wanted to start a community, funny, who doesn't? In reality, it does take effort to pull a unique community, and it takes patience and determination as you wait other users to spread the word. Heck, there are tons of things you can start a community out of, but the issue is whether you show the users you care enough. They'd also want an stable site to chit chat, if you just stop paying the site because you felt it-be ready to be bitch-slapped.
I've discussed a bit on how RouteCafe would turn, but not how the system and the interface would be. There are tons of features people want in a site, and I'm coding this site from the scratch using Zend Framework. The best example on how the site will turn out: DeviantArt.
All about graphics, all about open-sources graphic programs. Users sharing their work they've done in GIMP, Inkscape, Scribus and so on. Not limited to commercial products because banning them is a bit pointless.
Features? I've been thinking of an API. Of course, the main goal right now is to actually put the hierarchy system and give the ability to the user to upload their work. I'd hope to get part of the system done before the end of summer.
Features:
-
Categorizing the artwork
- Clean Urls
- Your own profile with a little blog
- Bookmarks
- Favorites
- Links to art, what do I mean?
Have you ever heard of social community where people vote if its cool enough? Yea, that.
- Resources Section
This is it for the first release, some features might change, and the API will be on later, including XMLRPC.
