Summer break!

Of course summer for me doesn’t mean much since I’m always kinda doing the same things, reading tech articles, catching up with linux stuff, checking out windows new technologies, etc, etc. And so one of my hobbies is to read books but man sometimes when I visit related communities I’m really amazed that some people spend most of their time reading books; I remember once hearing from a lady that she has read over 600 books, how can they get the time!?

The Book Thief by Markus ZusakUsually I would buy books and just read them to kill summer time and got started with The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, at first I thought I did the same mistake as judging the book by its cover because I’m usually a sucker for “grungy” text and covers like that. So yesterday I covered around 3 chapters and found it so good I couldn’t just put it down. Of course sometimes my determination to finish things gets the best of me and seriously I could keep reading until 3 A.M. or 4 A.M depending on how good the plots get. It really made me chuckle when I reached the Jesse Owens incident, Rudy must have some screws loosened in his head. Anyways, if I’m not mistaken the story is narrated by a very unpredictable character, Death.

Dry Ice by Stephen WhiteThat aside I also bought Dry Ice by Stephen White. Usually I would go with sci-fi/fantasy books on my hands to buy them yet it was time for me to get into a new genre. I haven’t started reading it yet and I’ll probably start when
I finish The Book Thief. I’d hope this book does not disappoint me in plot twists. There was also this book titled “The Appeal” but it didn’t really catch my attention. What really caught my attention was when I walked into the History section in Borders and History of Germany, specifically the history of Hitler. I couldn’t get to glance over all the titles sadly maybe on my next visit to Borders.

My next acquired copy is one that was widely talked over here in Puerto Rico. That is “El Alquimista” (in english, The Alchemist) this fairy tale seems to have made an impact to pursue your dreams. Of course I had to see that for myself to see the power of the alchemist. I usually don’t buy books in spanish and once again I made an exception and bought the spanish version.

That’s about it, it’s been quite a while since I don’t read a book so my reading speed has gotten quite slow sadly. I still need to finish the child’s book, harry potter, because the only book left to finish for me is the last one which it sort of makes me feel annoyed!
